Pompeii - Regio VI, Insula I reconstruction
I built this model when I returned from my fieldwork working on this site in Pompeii, summer 2003. It is based on the things that I observed whilst working on-site in addition to my knowledge of Roman and Pompeian architecture. It depicts the inn which I worked on and the neighbouring Herculaneum Gate and is based on excavated remains as far as possible. The model was created using Medal of Honor Radiant with textures made and edited in JASC Paintshop Pro 7. The reconstruction could then be loaded as a level within the EA/2015 game Medal of Honor: Allied Assault. The reconstruction made use of the game's support for interactive objects so doors and shutters could be opened and objects such as candle flames and shafts of light could be animated. In addition a second version of the scene was made depicting the area at the time of Vesuvius' eruption in AD 79. This featured falling ash, the glowing red volcano and a rising layer of ash as it settled on the ground. Both versions included appropriate background sounds which were sourced from Sierra/Impressions' game Caesar III.
